The Space Between - What Do You See When You Look Around A Room?

Space is an obscure word

One that means so much and yet so little.

Many of us define our area, our lives by the stuff that surrounds us; by the size of our homes, the make or model of our cars.

When I look around I see the stuff that makes me, me.  Don’t you?

I chose that art to hang on that wall.  I chose the shirt I am wearing today and the one yesterday and the one I will wear tomorrow.

As children these choices were made for us; as parents we make these choices for our children.

Everyday, every decision is made based on stuff, on the things that make up life.

Take a look around then close your eyes and picture the room

Give yourself a minute or two…

What did you picture?

Did you see the world around you in terms of the stuff?  Did you picture the walls? The floor? The ceiling?  The things that adorn these surfaces?

What if I told you there is more?

We see the stuff around us and we worry.

We worry about the mortgage or rent, the groceries to be bought, the things we do not yet have.

Every one of us complains about the stress in our lives.  It is the number one cause of death in North America!  We are constantly looking for things and ways to reduce stress yet we ignore the most obvious one!

SPACE!

Haha! You laugh.

Space? Really?

How can space be the answer to stress?  Stress is caused by the feelings of being overwhelmed.  Of too much happening, of too many demands.

I answer EXACTLY.

Look straight ahead and see the space in front; all around you.

See the space instead of the things.

Every object that displaces the air.

Breathe in and look around; instead of stuff SEE the space between.

Look deep into the nothingness and breathe in.  Can you feel it?  Can you see it?

It is the point where the inhale stops and the exhale begins.  Space is a time freeze.

A place where endless possibilities exist. Where everything becomes possible.

This is the place from which we start.  This is the place in which we end.

The space between our stuff is the clarity of the moment.  A time and place where we can catch that breath.

It is always there to support us.  We can create a deeper understanding; by coming in this moment we can find that peace we are desperately seeking.

Look towards the end of the nose, at that point where the room becomes soft.

Look around without focusing.

Close your eyes.

Take 5 long deep breaths.

Open the eyes.

What did you see?  How do you feel?

With the eyes soft there are shapes and colours, without identity. There is space to just be you.

No one else, nothing else; just the perfection which is you.

SEE the space between.
