Living Your Life….

Looking around in our society you can see there are billions of people who have their own lives, who have cars, homes, families, and careers. And while you look around you can tell that there are many of those who live the lives they have always wanted, they stomped out the notion of having to follow societies rules on how to live life until the day you die; then there are those who just live life according to the “rules”, due to being unsure of what they want, or just out of fear of not pursuing whatever it is they are passionate about. But how do you pursue the life you want? How do you live authentically? How do you just be you amid a conforming society?

 Who Are You?

Before you can live the life that you’ve always wanted to have, you need to ask yourself: Who am I? What are my interests? What are my morals or my views? What am I passionate about? Knowing the answers to these questions will help you figure out who you truly are, and what you stand for. Not only that, you will end up figuring out what it is you truly are passionate about. Are you passionate about writing? How about studying medicine? Knowing your passions help you start living the life you want, it helps you become more aware, more mindful of your own self.

Where Do You See Yourself?

3 days from now, or 5 years from now, where do you see yourself? Do you see yourself running your own business, traveling, maybe being a doctor? We grew up with these questions ever since we were children, when the people at job fairs hounded us with similar questions. But they were right, this question is important, because if you know what you want, or what you are passionate about, then you it will be a little easier for you when you decide to go full force and finally do what you want.

Being Okay with Being Afraid.

Being honest, it can be a little nerve wrecking when you are wanting to live the life you want. You want to do what you love, love who you want; but the thought of it scares you. And it should. If something that you are passionate about scares you it means you should be pursuing it. This helps you unlock a whole new part of you, a new perspective of you emerges, and helps you break down the barriers that you and society have put up. When you are passionate about something you shouldn’t let fear take over and keep you in that burn out job that you have. No, instead you should come to terms with that fear and use it to pursue your passions.

Not Worrying About What Others Might Say or Think

It is easy to just let what others say or think get to us, and most of the time we rely too much on what others say about us. We worry that they might disagree with our beliefs, our ways of living, or how they feel about us pursuing the very thing we are passionate about. Many people are like this, and from plenty of experience, I’ve seen that when we rely too much on what others say and think about us we end up conforming to their ways of thinking, their beliefs, their ways of living. Why should we rely so much on what others think about our lifestyle choices? Why should we care what they think of nomadic living, pursuing our passions, or our eating habits? We shouldn’t care. Instead we should set an example of living authentic lifestyles of how people can pursue their passions, and just be themselves.

There is a quote that dives into not carrying about what others might say or think: “We’ve all been in positions where we felt out of place or not accepted for whatever reason. For me, that’s been my life. I’ve always been that person that stood out. And what makes you an outcast is what makes you unique, and you should harness that. Being a black sheep gives you a creative license to do s**t differently.” That was said by Andre Hueston Mack, who had a successful career with Citicorp but left it to pursue his passion of wine making. And seeing how he rather pursue his passion than give into what others would’ve said or thought inspires not only the writer of this article, but many others.

Take a new step each day, and don’t let fear or society dictate what career you should have, or how you should live your life. Just be you, and everything will turn out like it should when it is time.
